Get Money OUT of OUR Elections!

For far too long candidates for Congress have taken massive donations from mega donors, billionaires, PACs and other powerful monied interests to run their election campaigns. As you’d expect, when they get to Congress they make laws that favor those same interests. We all know this is true.

So let’s put a stop to it.

If elected, I will work with others in Congress to enact legislation that does the following:

  • Requires all candidates for Federal office to qualify for taxpayer-funded grants to run their campaigns. NO donations. Ever. They would do this by convincing a threshold number of constituents that they are worthy of taxpayer funds to run for office.

  • Qualifying candidates would each receive the same amount, ensuring all candidates are on equal financial footing. Candidates will have to run on the quality of their ideas, not the size of their campaign’s bank account.

  • If a candidate runs out of money, too bad. Learn to actually plan ahead and stay within a budget BEFORE you get to Congress.

  • All awarded grants would be subject to the same strict scrutiny by which campaign funds are currently regulated.

If we can get this done and block the fossil fuel industry, health insurance and pharma and other vast, ultra-rich influences on our election, then members of Congress will be forced to focus our OUR needs. Then see how fast we get affordable healthcare, low-cost prescription meds, green energy initiatives, affordable child care and fair compensation for working class men and women.

We can really do this. We just need the will to get it done.
